2 Must have SEO plugins for Wordpress.

SEO i.e Search Engine Optimization is very necessary if you want to run a website successfully. If your blog/site is properly optimized for Search Engines, you can get lots of FREE visitors from Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc. These more visitors you get, the more money you can make from your site, either by selling something or through Advertising or both.

If you search for wordpress seo plugins you will get many options but the two I recommend most are - Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator for WordPress by Arne Brachhold and Platinum SEO Pack by Rajesh.

Lets see what these plugins do -

1. Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator for WordPress by Arne Brachhold
Though Google and other Search Engines indexes your pages by crawling your site frequently, but having a sitemap for your site can really BOOST the indexing of your site in Search Engines. The more pages of your site indexed, the more chances of you getting visitors. Though you can create the sitemap manually, but it will be very cumbersome and you will have to make changes to your sitemap every time you make new post.

This is where this plugin come handy. It not only creates the Search Engine friendly sitemap but also pings them about the changes you made. All this is done automatically once a day, but you can also create sitemap manually whenever you want.

2. Platinum SEO Pack by Rajesh
There are many attributes which if added properly to your blog pages, you can skyrocket your traffic. So, there is this plugin which will automatically add the pre-defined attributes to your blog. Moreover you can add the attribute for each post in 'Add New Post' page. With this plugin, you can have a different titles - one for posts on your blog and another one to be displayed on Search Engine results. I usually add keywords rich title for SE like "Cast-Crew-Preview-Trailer of Movie (2011)" and keep the title to be displayed on blog simple like - "Movie (2011)"

Also you can add description and keywords for your post, which will be different from the default for your Blog.

So both these plugins will work to get you more of Organic Traffic from Search Engines.

How to move your blog from Wordpress to Blogger in 3 Simple Steps?

Now, this is quite common to move from different platforms. You may want to move to Blogger because all the liberties it provide as compared to Wordpress.com. Also if you are hosting your Wordpress blog on your server, you may want to move to Blogger due to all the FREE bandwidth and diskspace it provides.

So, lets see how you can do it -

Step I.
Create an export file of your wordpress blog. If your blog is quite big I would suggest downloading the file separately for each month. All you have to do download the posts and pages separately rather than as 'All Content', don't worry each post will carry its details and comments with it.

Step II.
Now that you have got your xml file you have to make it compatible for blogger. This can be done at - http://wordpress2blogger.appspot.com/

You have to upload your wordpress xml file there and it will convert it to Blogger format and you can download it then. But there is a limit of size of 1 mb. That's why I suggested to download your posts separately and select dates such that each file is less than 1 mb.

Step III.
Now that you have a Blogger compatible version of your Wordpress blo, all you have to do is import it to Blogger.

Goto your Dashboard >> Settings >> Other and Click on 'Import Blog'

I suggest to uncheck the 'Automatically Publish all Imported Post' so that you can review them before publishing.

Repeat the Steps 2 and 3 until you have imported all your Wordpress export files to Blogger. And after that you are done, go publish it on Blogger.

Cheers!!

How to use Dropbox to host your scripts for free?

We earlier used Google Sites to host scripts. Hear I will tell about how to use Dropbox to host your scripts and other files. Dropbox gives you 2GB free space with 10GB/Day bandwidth. You get public hotlink to share with others.

Register and Install Dropbox
Go to this link and register with Dropbox. After that you will get option to download Dropbox application. Download it and install. During setup select the 2GB free option. Next, choose the typical setup type. And finish the setup. A Dropbox folder will be created into the My Documents of your computer. Also a icon is created into your taskbar.

Hosting/uploading files to Dropbox

There are two ways to upload files to Dropbox
1. From Dropbox website - Files > Upload
2. From your computer.
Go to My Documents\Dropbox\Public and drag and drop any file or folder there. It will be uploaded to Dropbox.

When the file is being uploaded a synk marker will appear on it. And as soon as the uploading is finished a green done mark will appear as shown in adjacent image.

To get the link of just uploaded file go to Dropbox website and go to Files tab. Right click on that file and select Copy public link. This is your uploaded file link. That's it.

Importance of perfect title for Blog Post and How to write it.

Title of your Blog post is very important. The title is what attracts visitors to your site from the vast sea of similar search results. Also the title gives your user a fair idea of what the blog post is about.

A keyword rich title can help you get better rankings in Search Engines, getting you more organic traffic. Google give lots of importance to the title of the page in its Search Engine Rankings.

Here are some simple tips to write perfect title for your Blog Post -

1. First and the most important tip is to check your title before publishing a post. Many times we think some title and write entirely different one or make some silly mistakes in the one we thought. In Blogger platform, though you can edit the title of your post later, you cannot edit the permalink url of your post which is derived from post title.

2. Though the title must be attractive enough to get the user to visit your blog, it should not be misleading. The title must be relevant to the content of the post. An irrelevant title will make your user leave the Blog with lots of frustration and wasted time. He may never think of revisiting your blog again.

3. Though the post title must be keyword rich, it should be meaningful and relevant.

4. Try to place yourself in the position of the visitor and think what you would have typed, if you would be searching for that topic.

5. Add some spark to the post title, so that the reader must visit your blog out of curiosity. Here are some examples - Recession - Killing me softly, Launching a Blog? Do It With a Bang.

How to add Yahoo Smiley Emoticons to Blogger Comment Form?

We all have been using the smileys for quite a long time. We use them on mobile, forums, etc.

Now you can add these yahoo smiley emoticons to your Blogger blog in comment form. So that your users can easily use them while commenting on your blog. This will make commenting on your blog more fun and attractive.

So what you have to do is add some css code, html code and javascript to your template.

Here's how to do this -

STEP I : In this step we'll add the css code to your template.

- Go to Dashbord > Design > Edit HTML > Expand Widgets.
- Now search for </b:skin> tag in your template.
- Add following code below that tag -

.way2bloggingcsmly {
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #EFF5FB !important;
border: 1px dashed green !important;
font-size: medium !important;
padding: 5px !important;
text-align: left !important;
font-weight:bold !important;
width:100% !important;
-moz-background-clip: -moz-initial;
-moz-background-origin: -moz-initial;
-moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;
}
img.w2bsmly {
height: auto !important;
vertical-align: middle !important;
width: auto !important;
border:0px !important;
}

STEP II : Now that the CSS code is added, we'll add the HTML code.

- Search for the following code in your template

<b:if cond='data:post.embedCommentForm'>
<b:include data='post' name='comment-form'/>

- Now the code below in between the above two tags

How to insert simple HTML tables to Blogger posts/siderbar?

Most of you want to add one or more tables to their posts or to sidebar. From w3schools I got simple solution about it as follows:

To add the table to post go to New Post and click on Edit HTML next to Compose. And add following code there.

row 1, cell 1

row 1, cell 2

row 2, cell 1

row 2, cell 2

row 2, cell 1

row 2, cell 2

You will get following Table

Explanation of Tags

- It defines a table.

- it is the border of the table. Setting it to 0 result in no border. For more thick border you can change values to 5, 10 or more.

- table row

- table cell

Adding More Rows to a table

To add more rowss to the table add the following code ABOVE

row 2, cell 1

row 2, cell 2

row 1, cell 1 row 1, cell 2
row 2, cell 1 row 2, cell 2
row 2, cell 1 row 2, cell 2
row 2, cell 1 row 2, cell 2
row 2, cell 1 row 2, cell 2

Adding More Columns to a table

Following is the row code

row 2, cell 1

row 2, cell 2

When you add

row , cell
to just between the

then you will add one more column/cell to that row.

row 1, cell 1 row 1, cell 2 row 2, cell 1
row 2, cell 1 row 2, cell 1 row 2, cell 2

Table Headers

defines the table headers as follows:

Name

Phone

Mr. Cool Dude

420 00 420

Name Phone
Mr. Cool Dude 420 00 420

Following the example of vertical header

Name:

Mr. Cool Dude

Phone:

420 77 420

Name: Mr. Cool Dude
Phone: 420 77 420

Split a cell into two columns

Name

Phone

James Bond

770 00 007

700 00 777

Name Phone
James Bond 770 00 007 700 00 777

Split a cell into two rows

Name:

James Bond

Phone:

007 00 786

998 13 007

Name: James Bond
Phone: 007 00 786
998 13 007

Align (left, right, central) attribute

Cellpading

It defines the space between the cell wall and the cell content.

Name

Rank

James

701

Name Rank
James 701

Cellspacing

It specifies the space between the cells.

Name

Rank

James

701

Name Rank
James 701

Width of table

Name

Rank

James

701

Name Rank
James 701

Adding Background color or image to a table

Name

Rank

James

701

Name Rank
James 701

Image

Name

Rank

James

701

Name Rank
James 701
 Lara 213

Table Style
The table will appear different on your blog depending upon the table style added into your template. You can change table style. Go to Edit HTML and look for post table{
You will get

.post table{
border-collapse:separate;
text-align: none;
margin: 1 1px;
}

.post table,th, td{
border: 1px solid #ccc;
}

You can use two values for "border-collapse" -- collapse or separate

If the table style is not present then add above code ABOVE </b:skin>

So this is all about adding a table to Blogger. If you face any problem you can ask it using the comments. Or you can join our Blogger group on Facebook.
